Odelia Oshri
I am an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where I hold the Gillon Lectureship in Political Science. I earned both my PhD in Political Science and my BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) from the Hebrew University. My main research interests are in comparative political behavior in advanced democracies, public opinion, political representation, and gender and politics.
My research focuses on democratic politics and failures of representation in advanced democracies, and is motivated by three main questions: (1) How do institutions influence individuals to support democratic values? (2) What processes foster political extremism?, and (3) What are the factors that counteract political extremism and stabilize democratic political systems?
I address these questions using various methods, including experiments, surveys, and computational text analysis. Thus far, I have conducted my empirical investigations in Europe, and in several studies have also situated Israeli politics in a comparative perspective.
I am grateful for the support of external competitive grants from the Israel Science Foundation and the Thyssen Foundation, and for the collaborative Trans4Demo Horizon 2020 project, as well as competitive internal grants at the Hebrew University.
My work has been published in leading journals such as American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Political Science, European Journal of Political Research, Party Politics, PLoS ONE, European Union Politics and Political Psychology.
I also study radical right populism; party competition in Europe; online hate speech; the representation of minorities and Muslims in Europe and how political elites effect violence toward women. Here you can find more information on my research projects.
